I am Hélène. I have spent 25 years of my life as a teacher and researcher in the field of psychology and relationships. Fifteen of those years were spent teaching curious and challenging MBA and other students of leadership at the UCT Graduate School of Business.

I am also the Programme Director for the first National Diploma in Facilitation offered by the South African College of Applied Psychology. Through my business, Feather Associates (Pty) Ltd, I've worked with many South African organizations, facilitating people processes about issues that lie beneath the surface and need to be carefully brought into the conversation.

My idea worth sharing to present at TEDxCapeTown 2012 is that much of our behaviour is driven by the unconscious mind, individually and collectively. In order to stop destroying ourselves, our communities and our planet, we as humans need to have a three dimensional approach - working 'beneath' (an ethical and deep relationship with our selves and particularly with our unconscious selves), 'between' (co-operative relationships with others and an awareness of the collective unconscious) and 'beyond' (a connection with our home and our fellow life forms - the earth, the air, the oceans and the other species that live on our planet).
